Poway has a rich history that is fun to explore.

Here are a handful of ways you can take a walk through history here in Poway 92064.

  1. Hike to the abandoned house.  Out near Sycamore Creek, if you go further south and then wrap around the hill to the east there is an old, abandoned home.  Only the foundation, basement, chimney and a few nick knacks remain.  It’s a reminder of old west living in Poway back in the day.
  2. Heritage Museum and Nelson House.  The Poway Historical Society has done an awesome job preserving old Poway photographs throughout our city’s history.  Every photo tells a story of a thousand words and those stories are also captured in the museum.  The well-preserved Nelson House is there on site and available for tour.
  3. Big Stone Lodge and Stagecoach Stop Site.  Tucked away in the southwest corner of town along Old Pomerado Rd is the former site of the Big Stone Lodge.  This used to be a stagecoach site and a thriving honky tonk.  The future of the Big Stone Lodge is yet to be determined, so be sure to check it out while you can.  The area surrounding these stone buildings is also a wonderful passive park that feels like a time warp to another era.

Have fun in Poway!
